Say hello to our Rollingwood New Build project! This home is full of texture and is all about balancing serene and interesting elements. Our client was seeking help with furnishing and designing her new build, and wanted a beautiful space that was fresh and comfortable, while also feeling unique to her family. We used a lot of earthy materials and cool blues to give this home a calming feel, while also incorporating bold prints, pops of color, and unique details to make it one-of-a-kind and thoughtful. We’ve been dying to share this beautiful home with you, so let’s take a tour!

Great Room

The majority of the main floor in this home is open concept, so it was important that each area felt specially curated to be functional for the family, while also being cohesive and flowing with the surrounding spaces. We kicked off the design concept by identifying the primary design element that would define the room, which was the beautiful deep blue color used on the kitchen cabinetry; Hague Blue by Farrow & Ball. Since we knew that color would be a focal point for the entire open space, we based the living room, dining area, and surrounding spaces off of that palette. Rollingwood Kitchen Bandd Design

Various shades of blue were mixed in throughout to tie it all in with the kitchen. Such as the custom roman shade fabric on the kitchen window and the denim-like banquette seating at the dining table. To compliment the shades of blue, we chose to incorporate grays and silvery tones for the sofas and accent seating in the living room. The rugs used in the dining and living room are both identical to keep the space feeling cohesive, and they feature a mix of light blue, silver, and orange to tie in with the upholstery and kitchen paint.

Complimenting the cool blues and grays with warmer hues was essential for making this home feel balanced and create contrast. Organic elements, such as wood and rattan, were just what this space needed to warm it up. These materials were incorporated mostly through woodwork by our go-to guy, Jon Parry of Something Old Something New Woodwork, who added built-ins on each side of the living room fireplace and floating shelves in the kitchen. This not only brought the perfect amount of warmth and natural material in to keep the space feeling serene, but it gave the client additional storage. To bring an extra touch of warmth throughout this open concept area, we used brass finishes and lighting for a polished, more luxurious look.

Near the dining room is a staircase that leads to the second story. There was a pretty size-able, empty space underneath the stairs and all we could see there was an opportunity for something special! A built-in reading nook was the perfect solution to add in some color and pattern, while also taking advantage of the space to make it functional. I’m obsessed with this Ink Blot fabric by Perennials and it works beautifully with the deep blues in the kitchen and dining room.

Study

Our client wanted her home office to be a place where she could work while her young daughter does school work next to her. So rather than using a standard desk and having two dedicated workstations, we used a dining table so that it felt more collaborative and open. And of course, custom cabinetry was a must to give this family extra storage solutions. Using a darker wood tone for the built-ins brought a sophisticated and masculine ambiance, and paired with textiles that are full of pattern and texture, created the perfect combination of moody and relaxed.

Powder Bathroom

This has to be one of my favorite rooms that I’ve ever designed. We really pushed our client out of her comfort zone here, and boy are we glad that she trusted the process because once she saw it all done and installed, she was absolutely obsessed. The Osborne & Little wallpaper was the perfect choice because it makes a bold statement but still has that whimsical and earthy quality that is seen throughout the entire home. Since the wallpaper pattern was a little busy, we used a more minimalistic, abstract print for the window treatment.

Primary Suite

The goal for the primary suite was to really make it a peaceful and tranquil place for the homeowner to relax in – like her own personal oasis. We used a mostly neutral palette, with touches of soft blues and sandy peach colors. A canopy bed was the perfect option because it felt like something you would see at a tropical resort or bungalow, especially with the lagoon-hued headboard. Adding in accent seating with custom upholstery brought in a beautiful touch of color and pattern to the room, as well as giving her an extra nook to wind down in.

The serene and relaxing vibe from the bedroom was also carried into the primary bathroom, where the client can feel like she’s at a luxury spa. Not all bright, fresh, and airy spaces have to be completely white – and this bathroom is a great example of that. The wood flooring and vanity give such a natural, grounded feel. To add a touch of glamour and tie in with the countertops and shower tile, Kelly Wearstler sconces were placed next to the vanity mirrors. We finished it out with a vintage Persian runner rug to bring in some cooler tones and cozy it up a bit.

Laundry Room

Even the most ordinary of spaces need some love too! We used an indigo, arrow printed wallpaper by St.Frank to bring some life and color into this laundry room.

Girl’s Bedroom

With the majority of the client’s children fledged and off to college, we got to put a lot of focus on her young daughter’s bedroom. We had so much fun getting to work with playful textiles, such as the Flamingo wallpaper in the shelving and the gold and blush leaf wallpaper on the ceiling. Custom built-ins that function as storage, display, and a desk area was a must so that this little girl has space to do schoolwork and tuck away all of her things.

Workout + Guest Room

The homeowner loves to workout and it was very important to her to have a fitness area in her home. But, she also knew that she would need a guest bedroom for when her family members are in town, and there is only one spare bedroom. Instead of having to decide on using the room for a guest room or workout space, we designed it to work as both! Thanks to our amazing woodworker, Jon Parry, we were able to build in a queen-size murphy bed that when it’s tucked up, leaves the floor space open and has a full length mirror to use for at home workouts. The murphy bed also features drawers, cabinets, and open shelving so that when guests are using it they have a place to store their belongings. We also had a bench custom made by Mockingbird Made for the room that uses climbing rope as the seat to embrace the athletic aspect of the room while also keeping it feeling livable as a guest suite.

Media Room

We wanted this media room to be the hub for the whole family and their entertaining needs! Since the client decided that she didn’t want a television in the living room (which I give major respect to), this media room will be getting a lot of use for lounge time. A custom sectional sofa was essential so that when all of her children are home they can all comfortably fit. This space is right next to the young daughter’s bedroom, so it also needed to fit her needs as well. We added in a snack bar for her friends and her to enjoy during sleepovers, and a game table off in the corner as another option for entertainment.
