Note from Sara: Hi! Me again. This week, I’ve tapped our resident trend expert, Mackenzie to share her predictions on where interior design is going to take us in 2019. I am so excited to play around with these new ideas!
And just like that, the new year is here! While 2018 was quite an amazing year for us at BANDD, we’re so excited to see what 2019 has in store for us! The new year is always a great time to reset and start fresh. Especially when it comes to your home! There are a lot of interior and home trends that we’re more than happy to see come and go, but here’s our top trend predictions for 2019 that we hope will stay for awhile.
For as long as we can remember, mixing metals has been a bit taboo. But we’re loving how this trend is throwing a wrench into the design mix. We absolutely love that extra layer of sophistication that metallics bring into a space. So sometimes we have a hard time narrowing it down to one! Treat your metals almost like you would when selecting color. Pick a dominant one, then bring in others for some extra pop. BUT, we like to be consistent with our finishes. For example, if you go with polished copper as your dominant metal, bring in accents of polished chrome.
The traditional floral pattern is getting a pushed aside for it’s cooler, older sister. This trend has been a long time coming, but it’s in full force right now and we’re predicting it’ll continue well into the future. While florals have always been seen as hyper feminine, we’re loving the more masculine twist on this classic pattern. And with an abundance of options like art by Ashley Woodson Bailey or wallpaper from Ellie Cashman, it’s easy to get this look in a variety of ways.
We recently did a post on our new-found love, matte black appliances, which you can find right here. And we just CAN’T. GET. ENOUGH. Pretty much every major brand of kitchen appliances is getting on board with this killer look. With options from Kitchen Aid to Viking, you don’t have to blow your budget in order to get this look. But we’re not stopping at just the Kitchen, we love this finish for every room of your home. We’re seeing this trend all over the place from lighting + art frames to furniture + ceramic tile. Black is and always will be a classic. But the matte finish brings black into modern times; it has a warmer feel and is relaxed. And when it comes to a comfortable home, that’s really all we want.
When it comes to furniture, straight, clean lines will never go out of style. But we’re not mad about the current comeback that is curved seating. It’s a little retro and lot unexpected, but can turn even the simplest designs into something worth melting over. And BONUS, not only is it great to look at, but curved upholstery instantly adds comfort. The curved back literally hugs around you to add instant coziness.
With the growing desire for more airy, open spaces, lighter woods are making a comeback. We talked about our love of white oak kitchen cabinets in a post a while back and not shockingly, we’re still completely in love with this trend. Not only do we love this lighter look for cabinetry, but we’re seeing it more and more in both furniture and flooring. It’s effortless and cool, and can easily transition from casual to upscale.
We’ll be back later in the year to check in on new emerging trends.
